Daily REcap!

So we got a mini lesson in mind node and what it means to have studently attitudes today! WE shared the room with a few other students during our first 40 minuetes and then got to talking about Brandt. I shared my feedback on your COLD readings. REad over the feedback I provided you with because next Tuesday I'll ask you to revise your question based on my feedback! :D This means you'll be re-reading the excerpt, the question and then responding based on my feedback!

We went through my feedback bit by bit, and then we tackled a small part of Brandt's excerpt to reanswer the Q.

REMEMBER, when a Q asks you to explain with the author says it usually we means we're going to need to return to the text and break it down to figure it all out! Try this as you re-read brandt for homework!

After we got past what brandt was saying in the text we got really deep with it and started to probe at WHERE our ideas about reading come from. REmember even though Brandt describes physical locations these physical locations SAY SOMETHING about what we are brought up to culturally believe about reading and writing! Aaron nailed it when he said that writing is a lonely activity and reading is done with family, with a community of people. This really affects how we understand reading and writing and how we do reading and writing. John even noted that it was almost like we didn't have a choice in the matter. That's a scary thought! BUt SUPER mind blowing too!

WE ended our sesion by hitting up the boards and thinking about what activities surround our reading, why we do it and who else does something similiar. But we missed the opportunity to begin exploring how our activities might actually exhibit our attitudes about reading! We'll come back to that next week!

For Thursday please remember to bring in TWO PICTURE IDS, you'll be THEA Testing! This isn't optional, and if you do well on it you'll be sitting on a Pass for this course. I'll talk to the higher ups about whether or not that means you can drop the course or not! :D

To ReCAp:

  • Had a quick introduction to MindNode on the Ipads (we'll return to mindnode latr in the semster!)
  • WE read over my feedback to one of your Cold Readings and actually used my feedback to ReAnswer the Question. This was not easy though, so we'll return to close reading on Tuesday.
  • Once we'd closely read we were able to really get into the text and talk about what Bradnt's research meant about how we culturally perceive or view Reading and writing. We couldn't do it though without closely reading Brandt!
  • WE began to think about our own reading attitudes: we used the boards to explore a single activity we associate with reading and began to explore where it came from! :D
HomEWoRk:
REREAD Brandts whole article! This time read it while marking the paper! Highlight, circle, star, make notes on the side, talk back to it in your notes! I don't care what you do so long as you do something! Bring it into class so I can see it! This is for another grade!

PReview for next class meet:
THURSDAY: BRING IN TWO IDs for THEA TESTING on Thursday!
Tuesday: We'll spend some time with our Cold reading early on, and revise 1 question based on my feedback! We'll closely read the text, and back track to explore exactly what brandt is talking about, and we'll start out our class concept and difficult words master list! :D
